Applying For A Student Visa

How to Apply for Your Student Visa

Eligibility

If you are 16 or older and plan to study in the UK for more than six months, you need a student visa through the Student Route, costing £490. Additional fees apply for priority services.

Application Steps

Step 1: Apply and Receive an Unconditional Offer

  • Apply to your chosen university and receive an unconditional offer.

Step 2: Obtain Your Certificate of Acceptance of Studies (CAS)

  • After accepting the offer, your university will issue a CAS, costing £25.

Step 3: Start the Application Process

  • With your CAS, apply for your visa up to six months before your course starts. Pay the £490 fee and have a valid passport.
  • European Students: Use the UK Immigration: ID Check app for identity verification.

Step 4: Pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS)

  • For stays over six months, pay the IHS: £776 per year, or £388 for 1-6 months. Use the fee calculator on the UKVI website.
  • European Students: Check if you can get an IHS refund with your EHIC. Note that working part-time may affect eligibility.

Step 5: Prove English Proficiency (if required)

  • Check with your university for English language requirements.

Step 6: Complete Your Application

  • Ensure your application is completed and accepted before arriving in the UK.
